Steven Mariano – Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Mariano, our founder, is an entrepreneur and businessman with 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. Mr. Mariano founded Strategic Outsourcing Inc., a professional staffing company, which was sold to Union Planters Bank (Regions Bank, NYSE) in 2000. Mr. Mariano formed Patriot Risk Management, Inc. during 2003 to acquire Guarantee Insurance. Shortly thereafter he formed Patriot Risk Services to provide fee-based care management, captive consulting, bill review, network development and other claims related services to Guarantee Insurance and other clients. Mr. Mariano has served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Guarantee Insurance since 2003. He is responsible for the overall direction and management of our operations and financial and strategic planning.
Ernst Csiszar – Vice Chairman
Mr. Csiszar is currently a clinical professor of finance at the Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina. He is a past president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Mr. Csiszar also sits on the Board of Directors for MasTec, Inc., an NYSE listed specialty contractor and PHTS Services, Ltd., a service provider to the healthcare industry and is a Senior Advisor to Bridge Strategy Group LLC, a management consulting firm.
Mr. Csiszar earned his LL.B. and B.A. from the University of Windsor in Canada. He began his professional career as a lawyer practicing commercial and corporate law in Canada. From 1979 to 1988, Mr. Csiszar was a partner and managing co-director of Holborn Holding Corporation based in Geneva, Switzerland. He subsequently served as managing director of CG Associates from 1988 to 1995, and president and CEO of Seibels Bruce Group, Inc., a South Carolina-based property and casualty insurance company, from 1993 to 1998. Mr. Csiszar was the State of South Carolina’s insurance commissioner from 1999 to 2004, and president and CEO of the Property and Casualty Insurers of America, the largest property and casualty insurance association in the United States, from 2004 to 2006.
Ronald P. Formento Sr. – Director
Mr. Formento serves as the President and Chairman of Transport Driver, Inc., a driver leasing company primarily servicing private manufacturing companies. He has served in that position since 1976. Mr. Formento also served as Chairman of the Board of Optimum Staffing, a provider of staffing services from 1992 until January 2005, and serves as Chairman of the Board of Mount Mansfield Insurance Group, a captive insurance company sponsored by American International Group that is engaged in reinsuring workers’ compensation insurance for truck drivers. Mr. Formento joined our board of directors in 2008.
C. Timothy Morris – Director
Mr. Morris is currently Managing Director of National Capital Advisors, Inc., an insurance consulting firm located in Charleston, South Carolina. He has served in that position since 2002. From 1997 to 2002, Mr. Morris was Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, National Accounts, for Travelers Property and Casualty. Mr. Morris joined our board of directors in 2008.
John R. Del Pizzo, CPA – Director
Since 1997, Mr. Del Pizzo has served as President, Secretary and Treasurer of Del Pizzo & Associates, an accounting and business advisory firm. Mr. Del Pizzo joined our board of directors in 2003.
Austin J. Shanfelter – Director
Since October 2009, Mr. Shanfelter has been the chairman and majority shareholder of Global HR Research LLC, an employee life cycle management company. He has served on the board of directors of Orion Marine Group (NYSE ORN), a civil marine contractor, since May 2007. From August 2001 until December 2008, he served as a member of the board of directors and as a special consultant of MasTec, Inc. (NYSE: MTZ), a publicly traded specialty contractor, Mr. Shanfelter served as Chief Executive Officer and President of MasTec from August 2001 until March 2007, and prior to that had served in various other capacities with MasTec since 1997. Mr. Shanfelter is a member of the board of directors of the Power and Communications Contractors Association, an industry trade group. Mr. Shanfelter also serves as a director of Lock Haven University Foundation. Mr. Shanfelter joined our board of directors in December 2009.
Richard F. Allen – Director
Mr. Allen is Of Counsel to the Seattle office of the Cozen O’Connor law firm and a member of that firm’s Global Insurance Group. He is a former Managing Partner of the firms London office , Cozen O’Connor LLC. He has practiced all facets of insurance law with an emphasis on insurance coverage issues. Mr. Allen received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and a law degree from Georgetown University. After college graduation he served in the U.S. Navy, both in the Pacific Fleet and as a faculty member at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. He holds the rank of Captain (Retired) in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
